Millennium Fastbuild Wings - AirVenture 2002

Lancair also had one of the new Millennium Fastbuild Wings in their tent at AirVenture 2002. I found this very interesting to look at because there were some noticeable differences between this wing, and the wings I had taken delivery of just in October 2001. On of the most significant points was that in my wings, the ribs were made of fiberglass/Nomex prepreg material that was cut to shape, and then capstrips were added in the way described in the construction manual. I did not have to do that work because it was done for me as a part of the Fastbuild option. With this wing, the ribs have been molded, and do not have a Nomex core. This makes the wings quicker and easier for Lancair to build. It also probably increases the level of consistency from wing to wing in the production process. I don't know what this does to strength and weight. The pictures below illustrate several points about these new Fastbuild wings. A few ES builders that I have talked to that have taken receipt of Millennium Fasbuild kits and have gone through the ES builders' workshop at the factory have mentioned that after they complete the workshop, they will be ahead of me. I have responded by pointing out to them that they are ahead of me before they set foot on Lancair property. ;-) There sure isn't any moss growing under Lancair's feet.
